These trees grew out of my imagination when I found these wooden forms at an architectural salvage shop. "I wonder what they are?" I asked myself. No idea. So of course I bought some.
They sat untouched for a number of years until I started making my own felt. (Knit, wash, shrink, play.)
I found my stash of these forms which all of a sudden looked like Christmas tree trunks to me. Found out they're vintage thread bobbins from industrial looms. How cool is that?
Bare wool was a little too plain for me. So I started adding beads. Naturally I had to paint little stands to keep them upright. And garnish with toppers made of this or that.
I have sold every single one that I have made except for Tree 13. I've had that topper bead since college. Couldn't let it go.
Here's a fun little marketing video I put together to get folks in the mood for the holidays.
